January 2012 Message from the chairman
25th January 2012
In a year of many highlights, 2011 will surely live long in the memory as the year in which Frankel shone in a series of outstanding performances from April to October.
It was no surprise at all to see the great British-bred crowned as the world’s best racehorse in the World Thoroughbred Rankings this month, having been jointly named as leading two-year-old in 2010. Many congratulations, therefore, to Prince Khalid Abdullah and to all of his team at Juddmonte.
Frankel is the second successive British-bred to top the world rankings, following hard on the heels of Harbinger, and his rating of 136 puts him alongside such former greats as Sea The Stars, and ahead of such luminaries as Cigar, Daylami, Montjeu and Dubai Millennium.
After his string of electrifying performances last year, it only remains to be seen what more Frankel can achieve in 2012, and we all eagerly anticipate his return to action.
A British-bred also jointly topped the European Free Handicap for the second year running, as the Racing Post Trophy winner Camelot headed the rankings, again giving us all the prospect of much to savour in the coming months.
BBM pursued a busy programme of activity both at home and abroad in 2011, and myself and the team once again have a packed year ahead with events in Britain as well as marketing trips abroad.
There has arguably never been a better time to promote the overwhelming success of the British-bred, domestically and on an international front, and I truly believe that our mixture of outstanding racing, heritage, and a world-renowned breeding industry makes Britain the ideal choice for overseas buyers seeking to invest in top-class horses and racing.
The BBM team are always on hand to provide assistance and support before, during and after the sales, and I once again urge anyone seeking help or information on British bloodstock and racing to get in touch.
The Hon. Harry Herbert
