Thoroughbred Breeding

Britain is home to over 5,000 thoroughbred breeders who are aided by attractive breeders' incentives.

From commercial enterprises to small ‘hobby’ breeders, stud farms are located the length and breadth of Britain. Although modern life has affected parts of the countryside, Britain lends itself to lush pastures and the temperate climate makes for ideal breeding conditions.

Britain boasts around 350 registered stallions, and over 10,000 broodmares produce the annual crop of just under 6,000 foals. There are more than 2,200 commercial stud farms, and these properties account for over 150,000 acres of land.

Many British-based stallions feature in the highest echelons of world classifications and are in constant demand around the globe due to the successes of their progeny at home and in top races around the world.

The emergence of successful National Hunt sires such as Kayf Tara, Double Trigger, and Midnight Legend have ensured that British-breds are once more to the fore over jumps, despite having been somewhat overshadowed by French- and Irish-bred horses in recent years.
