The British Bloodstock Marketing Committee

The British Bloodstock Marketing Committee meets with the BBM team on a regular basis and its members include Dena Arstall (ROA), Richard Frisby (FBA), Grant Harris (Weatherbys), Louise Kemble (TBA), Tim Kent (DBS), Matt Mitchell (Brightwells), Amy Sherman (REL) and Jason Singh (Tattersalls).

All Committee members have a profound knowledge of the racing and breeding industries in Britain, and make a significant and valuable input into BBM.

  • Dena Arstall

    ROA Representative

    Dena Arstall, Racehorse Owners Association

    Dena has been an owner and breeder for over twenty years and has bred the winners of 60 races including a Royal Ascot winner, a Chester Vase winner and a Tattersalls Book 1 Sales race winner.

    In 2005 she was elected to represent British racehorse owners on the Racehorse Owners' Council and soon after was asked to sit on the ROA Executive Committee.

    Dena was one of a chosen panel representing owners on the Gold Standard Committee, liaising directly with various racecourse groups and individual racecourses.

    In 2007 she represented owners on the BHA Code of Practice Working Group, ensuring integrity and transparency within the Bloodstock Sales arena.

    She currently sits on the board of Thoroughbred Owner and Breeder magazine , where she is Company Secretary and is on the editorial team.

    After graduating from Cambridge, Dena spent 15 years in the City, where she was head of secondary eurobond trading and a managing director at Credit Suisse. She now runs her own business coaching and consultancy business, Ad Libitum, specialising in individual performance and leadership.

  • Richard Frisby

    Federation of Bloodstock Agents Representative

    Richard Frisby, Bloodstock Agent

    Richard Frisby founded his own agency, Richard Frisby Bloodstock Limited, in August 2001 and has been responsible for the purchase of many top performers. These include the Group 1 winner Bianca Nera, purchased for just 23,000gns as a yearling at Tattersalls.

    Before branching out on his own, Richard spent 16 years with the British Bloodstock Agency (BBA). While at the BBA he served as a director, and was responsible for the purchase of racing and breeding stock worldwide as well as managing clients’ bloodstock interests at home and abroad.

    Prior to joining the BBA, Richard gained experience of the breeding industry at the highest level in both Britain and the US, and also assisted former trainer Ben Hanbury in Newmarket.

  • Grant Harris

    Weatherbys Representative

    Grant Harris, Business Development Director

    Grant Harris has been involved in the racing industry since graduating from university.

    His career has included roles as a racing journalist, seven years as Chief Executive of the National Trainers Federation, and a spell as assistant Racing Director at the British Horseracing Board (now the British Horseracing Authority).

    Grant joined Weatherbys in 2004 and is now head of the business development and new media team with direct responsibility for creating new business opportunities at home and abroad. This involves extensive travel to a host of overseas racing and breeding nations, focusing on both established and emerging markets.

    Grant is also a trustee of the British Racing School.

  • Louise Kemble

    Thoroughbred Breeders Association

    Louise Kemble, Chief Executive

    Louise is Chief Executive of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association and joined the BBM Committee in July 2010.

    Louise has enjoyed extensive experience in the British racing and breeding industry including spells working for The Jockey Club and National Trainers Federation. She is currently a director of Weatherbys General Stud Book, the Thoroughbred Owner and Breeder Magazine and The Elms Stud Company, co-owned with her husband Stephen Kemble. The farm is based on 200 acres in Northamptonshire, from where they breed and consign for both the Flat and National Hunt markets in the UK and Ireland.

    In 2006 the stud consigned Magical Romance, who sold for 4.6 million guineas at Tattersalls December Breeding Stock sale, breaking the world record price for a broodmare. In the same year the Elms Stud also bred and consigned the highest priced National Hunt foal at Tattersalls Ireland November Sales, where they regularly feature amongst the leading consignors.

    Louise also co-owns racehorses in France, with National Hunt graded winner Kauto Stone, as well as several interests in both Flat and National Hunt fillies in training in the UK and France.

  • Tim Kent

    Doncaster Bloodstock Sales Ltd Representative

    Tim Kent, Marketing Manager

    Tim Kent is a Director of Doncaster Bloodstock Sales Ltd. (DBS), responsible for the marketing and promotion of the company.

    Tim graduated from Nottingham University in 2005, after which he completed the BHA Graduate Scheme where he worked at the Horserace Betting Levy Board and York racecourse.

    After working as a bid spotter at the autumn sales, Tim was offered a six month work placement with DBS before joining the company’s bloodstock department. He also spent six months at Fasig-Tipton in Kentucky and has worked at a number of sales at Goffs in Ireland.

    Tim took up the role of DBS’s marketing manager in January 2007 and began auctioneering in May of the same year. The former point to point rider is now a DBS inspector for the breeze up, store, and yearling sales.

  • Brightwells Auctioneers Representative

    Matt Mitchell, Head of Bloodstock Sales

    Matt Mitchell joined Brightwells Auctioneers in February 2008 as head of Bloodstock Sales.

    A Business Studies graduate with a major in Marketing, Matt held a number of positions in consumer goods marketing during his early career before joining Irish Thoroughbred Marketing as its first employee in January 1992.

    From 2000-2007 Matt was Managing Director at Goffs Bloodstock Sales during a very successful period for the sales company.

    Matt’s family background is involvement with thoroughbred horses.

  • Amy Sherman

    British Horseracing Authority Representative

    Amy Sherman, Racing Enterprises Limited

    Amy joined the British Horseracing Authority as Promotions Manager in January 2009, driving promotional activity for the BHA and working on the development of the Racing for Change initiative, before formally joining Racing Enterprises as Senior PR and Promotions Manager in December 2010.

    She was formerly a manager at the top 10 PR agency Freud Communications, developing PR strategies and promotional activity for clients such as Selfridges, Walkers, The Carphone Warehouse, Russian Standard Vodka and Sony. Previously to this, Amy also worked as a manager for the top 5 PR agency Exposure, driving PR programmes for clients including Stella Artois, Land Rover, Triumph Motorcycles, Stolichnaya, Hennessy and Opodo.

    Her previous horseracing experience includes roles at both Newmarket and Ascot racecourses, as well as time spent working with Racenews.

  • Jason Singh

    Tattersalls Ltd Representative

    Jason Singh, Marketing Manager

    Originally from Melbourne in Australia, Jason Singh graduated with an Honours degree in Statistics.

    His first full-time employment was as a statistician for the credit reference agency, Experian, where he was based in the company’s Asia Pacific office.

    In 1998, Jason moved to England to take on a role at the National Air Traffic Services and in 2000, after responding to an advertisement in the Racing Post, he commenced work at Tattersalls, where he has been ever since.

    A keen racing enthusiast from an early age, Jason has bloodstock interests in the UK and Australia and travels extensively in his role for Tattersalls.
